Statement from Marie Blistan, Chair of the Cape May County Democratic Party, on President Biden’s decision not to seek a second term.

July 21, 2024

Today, President Biden announced that he would not seek a second term. President Biden has been the most impactful president in my lifetime given the economy, worldwide pandemic, and climate crisis that he inherited when he was sworn into office three years ago.

We thank him for his commitment to our working families, our veterans, our small business owners, our first responders, and his unwavering dedication and advocacy for civil and human rights.

We will move forward in our upcoming convention to renew our country’s focus to support the values of the American people, the belief in our Constitution, the separation of powers, continuing our economic progress, and demonstrating respect for humanity, civil rights, and our democracy.

The Republican Party’s presidential ticket represents the policies detailed in Project 2025 (https://abcnews.go.com/US/video/breaking-project-2025-112142674) which focuses very methodically on diminishing the very rights that many have fought for and given the ultimate sacrifice in our country.

The Democratic Party rejects the undying loyalty to any one individual as it is dangerous and unacceptable, and in fact, is the reason our great nation of the United States of America was created.

The Cape May County Democratic Party will work to defeat this far right extremism and elect our Democratic nominees into office.
