Statement from Senator George Helmy on the Ceasefire Agreement between Israel and Hezbollah

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator George Helmy today issued the following statement on the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah:

“After over a year of hostilities, Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire. This is a step in the right direction to end this protracted conflict in the Middle East. I thank President Biden for his administration’s efforts to broker this major agreement.

“However, there remains great work to be done to restore peace and security for the people affected by this conflict. I am hopeful that there will be further de-escalations, including a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas; the immediate return of all hostages; and the safe and guaranteed deliverance of critical humanitarian aid to the families in Gaza and the West Bank. Today marks a glimmer of hope for civilians in the Middle East.”
