Statement from Senator Richard J. Codey on the nomination of Shareef Elnahal to serve as Under Secretary in the Veterans Health Administration

LIVINGSTON – Senator Codey released a statement today praising President Joe Biden’s nomination of Shareef Elnahal to serve as Under Secretary for Health, Veterans Health Administration at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“He was one of the greatest Health Commissioners New Jersey has ever had. He is positioned to be to one of the best public health minds in the country for the next 30 or more years. While I’m sad to see him leaving New Jersey, our Veterans deserve the best care and his contributions at the VA will help provide that,” said Codey.

Elnahal is now the President and CEO of University Hospital and formerly served as New Jersey Commissioner of Health.

This is a sub-cabinet position, but Codey sees a bright future for Elnahal. “I’d bet he won’t be a sub for too long.”
