Statement from Speaker Coughlin on Monthly Minimum SNAP Benefit Rising to $50 in New Jersey

“For many months, folks have been faced with inflation and the rising cost of every day goods. The result: more of our neighbors are struggling to keep healthy and nutritious foods on their table. For many of them, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has been a lifeline.

“A proven means of lifting up all those left vulnerable to food insecurity, from our children to seniors, with direct support to pay for groceries, the program remains a critical tool within our larger hunger fighting toolbox. Last year, we took action to bolster it. Now, the statewide minimum benefit for all SNAP eligible households stands at $50 a month.

            “That’s incredibly meaningful to our working families and seniors, especially as we brace for the end of pandemic-era federal expansions to SNAP that brought unprecedented relief to sustain people.”
