Statement from West New York Forward on the Sires Team’s Harassment of Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez’ 78-Year-Old Mother

West New York, New Jersey – May 8, 2023 – “Our team is appalled by the excessive actions taken by the Sires campaign that resulted in Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez’s 78-year-old mother sustaining injuries when she was pressured by the opposing campaign to move her car. During the encounter, Assemblywoman Jimenez’s mother was tended to by first responders and a police report was filed.”

“As the investigation unfolds, we hope that transparency becomes the focal point in order to have a healthy democratic process. Harassment against any opponent’s family, volunteers, and constituents, is never the answer to an open, free democracy. We hope the Sires campaign joins us in agreeing that voter intimidation of any kind should have no place in our democracy.”

“We hope the Sires campaign encourages its workers to cease all negative behavior that could result in voter suppression that will ultimately strip someone’s right to vote. Actions like the excessive harassment Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez’s 78-year-old mother experienced over the weekend during early voting creates distrust in the election process which is something our team unquestionably condemns.”

“Cosmo’s Team for a Better West New York calls on the  Sires  team to cease all immoral behavior that involves voter suppression, discrimination, vandalism, and harassment that would result in our residents not participating in our municipal election this Tuesday, May 9, 2023.”
