Statement from Greg Lalevee on Northeast Corridor Funding
Today, Greg Lalevee, Chairman of the Engineers Labor-Employer Cooperative (ELEC) and Business Manager of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 825, released the following statement in response Governor Christie’s and Senator Booker’s call for transportation funding:
“The overburdened Northeast corridor is in need of significant investment. Two minor train derailments in two weeks, that stranded thousands of commuters in the nation’s busiest transit corridor offers a glimpse of what’s to come if we continue the current status quo. Thank you to Senator Booker and Governor Christie for their leadership today in support of this bipartisan effort to call for more funding.
“Underfunding our transit systems for years has brought us to this place. We must work together to create funding sources that invest in infrastructure systems for generations to come rather than a few years ahead.”
