STATEMENT: Make the Road NJ Youth Workers Applaud Movement on a $15 Minimum Wage, Reiterate Call For No Workers to Be Left Behind

Elizabeth, NJ – On behalf of Make the Road New Jersey, youth worker leader Angie Ruiz, age 17, issued the following statement on the news that Governor Murphy, Senate President Sweeney, and Assembly Speaker Coughlin have reached a deal on a $15 min wage:

“Make the Road NJ’s teen activists applaud the news that a deal has been reach on a $15 minimum wage. Teen workers organized and fought to be included in the deal, and we look forward to this long awaited. But we are disappointed to see that farm workers, seasonal workers, and employees of small businesses are phased in at a much slower rate. We stand in solidarity with all workers and demand that no worker be left behind as New Jersey takes this critical step to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour.”

Make the Road NJ builds the power of immigrant and working class communities in New Jersey to achieve dignity and justice through community organizing, legal and support services, transformative education and policy innovation.
