Statement by Margaret Weinberger, President, Somerset County Federation of Democratic Women

Margaret Weinberger of the Somerset County Federation of Democratic Women, Senator Vin Gopal, and Essex County Democrat (and InsiderNJ columnist) Tom Barrett.

We would like to thank Pat Walsh for giving us the opportunity to remind every woman AND man in Somerset County that in America until someone is proven guilty, they are innocent.

We are and were aware of the unfounded charges brought against Attorney General Ellison and are proud that he was available to speak to our group about the importance of solidarity in the Democratic Party.

Attorney General Keith Ellison is in the forefront of litigation brought around the country defending a women’s right to choose, fighting restrictions on that right, opposing the closings of clinics and defunding of Planned Parenthood, and making sure we are insulated against the actions of a Supreme Court with multiple appointees by President Trump.

We hope Ms. Walsh and others who renounced our choice will think twice about pushing unverified and false claims against public figures.  Note that the Republicans, led by Ms. Walsh, held their women’s event at Trump National, home of a proud admitted misogynist and sexual predator.

How interesting that the charges our party brought against Ms. Walsh were not disputed and are not what she chose to deny or fight. Instead, she chose the soft underbelly of a hot-topic target where she felt she could make a dent.  Sorry, Pat, Melonie is our next freeholder.

Margaret Weinberger, SCFDW President
