Statement by NJ Black Mayors’ Alliance for Social Justice (NJBMASJ) on Republican “Willie Horton” ad

Like Donald Trump, there is no limit to the lies that the Republican candidate for governor is telling. Donald Trump’s big lie is to equate murderers and rapists with peaceful undocumented immigrants who contribute to our economy. In her latest TV ad, the Republican candidate for governor does exactly the same thing.

We salute and support the cities that limit their cooperation with the Trump Administration’s efforts to unfairly enforce immigration laws. In fact, the NJBMASJ will not sacrifice thousands of good people who live and work among us. These individuals are part of our communities who contribute to our economy and the success of our cities. As Mayors, we will not be complicit in tearing families apart.

The NJBMASJ believe that murderers, rapists and other violent criminals should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law regardless of immigration status; however, Kim Guadagno’s campaign ad is nothing other than a racist attempt at stoking fear and resentment

The Republican tv ad is yet another reminder of how important it is to vote for Phil Murphy. When we vote for Phil Murphy we are not only electing a great governor, we are striking a powerful blow against the Trump/Republican assault on social justice and racial equality.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever does. – Margaret Mead
