STATEMENT OF ASSEMBLYMAN KEVIN J. ROONEY (R-40) ON WITHDRAWAL OF ØRSTED FROM NEW JERSEY OFF-SHORE WIND PROJECT

“The decision by Ørsted to withdraw from the wind turbine project off the Jersey Shore is a testament to the activism of New Jerseyans across the Garden State.  It is extremely disheartening that my colleagues across the aisle in both houses of the Legislature voted to create monumental taxpayer subsidies and expend taxpayer dollars to a company with proven financial constraints, which were validated by their decision to withdraw due to increasing project costs and astronomical interest rates.  As a lifelong visitor of the Jersey Shore, I am pleased that our premier real estate and tourist areas will not be negatively impacted by the view of windmills in the sightline of our beaches, and that our whales and other marine life will not continue to wash up on shore due to the impacts of these kinds of projects.”
