Statement from SCDC Chairwoman Peg Schaffer

“Pat Walsh? Really?” asked Peg Schaffer, Chairwoman of the Somerset County Democratic Committee. “First of all, these are allegations that have been reviewed and debunked by every news organization in the country. Following that, voters made their own evaluation and he was elected.  And since the election, he’s now leading the Attorneys Generals’ movement to fight restrictions placed by extremists on reproductive freedom.

“The real issue here in Somerset County is that Pat Walsh and the Somerset GOP don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to speaking up for women. For years, women in New Jersey were under assault by right-wing extremists, and Pat Walsh didn’t lift a finger. When Chris Christie and every single Republican legislator representing Somerset County voted against removing guns from domestic abusers, where was Pat Walsh?  When they slashed funding for women’s healthcare services such as prenatal care and cancer screenings, where was Pat Walsh? When Donald Trump sat in his Bedminster clubhouse denigrating and belittling women, where was Pat? Was she also ‘upset, appalled, and shocked’ when Republicans voted against Equal Pay, or vilified organizations such as Planned Parenthood, or rallied to support Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court, or when they ignored the cries of mothers from Newtown?  Of course not, because she doesn’t really care about standing up for women.”
