The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey Celebrates Women’s History Month
In honor of Women’s History Month, The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New
Jersey (SHCCNJ) on March 12th, 2020, held its annual panel discussion and cocktail reception
called The Art of Being A Modern Latina at the Meadowlands Conference Center of Bergen
Community College.
During this event, guests participated in a discussion moderated by Cultural Intelligence Expert,
Lili Gil Valletta and two of New Jersey’s top leaders, Emmy Award-nominated and TV Journalist,
Lisa Mateo and seasoned Executive of Alamo Insurance Group, Raquel Cagley. Approximately
200 guests enjoyed tapas sponsored by Goya Foods and Citrus Colombian Bakery of
Hackensack, NJ as well as drinks and cocktails by DIAGEO, Don Julio, Tito’s Homemade
Vodka, Johnnie Walker, Brockman’s Gin, and Don Cano Wines Import Corp.
When referencing the young Latinas in the room Lisa Mateo’s advice was to “be okay accepting
what you are really good at and maybe what you may not enjoy as much but once you find your
sweet spot use that to advance your career.”
Raquel Cagley encouraged the audience to “own whatever judgment or perception others may
have and leave them behind in the quest of becoming 10x better.”
Carlos Medina, President & CEO of SHCCNJ closed the panel by stating that “today women in
business are often unsure of what to do with business etiquette,” and implored men in the
audience to not only be mentors but to be gentlemen, “Be Caballeros”.
“The positive energy in the room was undeniable, despite the circumstance we are happy we
were able to come together as a community to celebrate Women’s History Month,” added
Chairman, Luis De La Hoz.
