Steinhardt Urges Congress to Pass Reimbursement Bill for State & Local Governments

Senator Doug Steinhardt (R-23) announced his intention to introduce a resolution to urge the United States Congress to pass the “Presidential Security Resources Reimbursement Act of 2024” so State and local governments may be reimbursed by Secret Service for the use of services, personnel, equipment, and facilities. The Act was introduced by U.S. Congressman Tom Kean.
“Keeping high-profile leaders secure is paramount, but we cannot overlook the strain it puts on state and local resources,” said Sen. Steinhardt. “When the Secret Service partners with state and local governments for additional resources, those impacted communities should be reimbursed for the expense. My resolution urges Congress to support Congressman Kean’s bill to ensure state and local governments aren’t left with the bill after providing added security measures.”
In an effort to increase security measures following the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, the Secret Service has utilized State and local resources to ensure the safety of past presidents and candidates for the office of President while traveling and hosting events.
Senator Steinhardt’s resolution would urge Congress to pass Congressman Kean’s bill to reimburse State and local governments when resources are utilized by the Secret Service.
Recently, Senator Steinhardt led a roundtable discussion with Congressman Tom Kean and Bedminster Mayor Larry Jacobs to develop practical solutions that provide robust protection for high-profile figures like President Trump and financial support for the communities involved.
“This is not just a matter of security — it’s a matter of fairness and respect for those serving in state and local governments whose important partnership with Secret Service keeps our leaders and candidates safe,” Sen. Steinhardt concluded.
