Steve Lonegan Makes “Contenders” List
for NRCC Young Guns Program

Hackensack, NJ — The Lonegan for Congress campaign is announcing that Steve Lonegan has been added to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Young Guns “Contenders” list. The development is a major one for the campaign which seeks to oust liberal Democrat Josh Gottheimer in the 5th District this fall. Lonegan is the only New Jersey candidate to make the list.

“We are proud to announce that our campaign is 1 of only 14 across the country to have made the Young Guns ‘Contenders’ list, the second-tier of the Young Guns program,” averred Lonegan. “Our campaign has received donations from over 2,600 individual donors and has a grassroots and digital effort that reaches over 20,000 voters every week, and those numbers are growing.”

“Being added to the Young Guns ‘Contenders’ list is indicative of the strength of our campaign and shows that we are in great position to win in November. Having the support of the NRCC will go a long way to ensure that happens.”

WASHINGTON – The NRCC today added 14 candidates to its Young Guns “Contenders” phase–the second tier of the Young Guns program. To be included, Republican candidates must meet specific goals throughout the cycle to ensure their campaigns are able to operate effectively.

“We have no shortage of compelling, hardworking candidates on our side. The NRCC is thrilled to continue supporting these candidates’ campaigns,” said NRCC Chairman Steve Stivers.
“The equation of the NRCC’s resources and organization combined with our contenders’ strong grassroots efforts is something that should keep Democrats up at night.”

According to the NRCC, “Contender is the second level of the Young Guns program. Contender candidates have completed stringent program metrics and are on the path to developing a mature and competitive campaign operation.  They are in congressional seats that appear favorable to the GOP candidate.”
