Steve Sweeney Receives Endorsement of NJ Carpenters Union

Carpenters Union Endorses Steve Sweeney for Governor, Applaud His Years of Fighting for Working Families

(Edison) – Former Senate President Steve Sweeney received the endorsement of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters in his campaign to become the next Governor of the State of New Jersey.

“Steve Sweeney is the quintessential champion of union labor and working families in the State of New Jersey,” said William C. Sproule, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, “The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters is proud to stand with Steve in his campaign to be the next Governor of New Jersey. Our Union Carpenters know Steve and have witnessed his leadership firsthand in New Jersey union halls or the New Jersey State House.”

“I am deeply honored to receive this important early endorsement from my brothers and sisters in the Carpenters Union,” said Sweeney. “New Jersey is a staunch union state and I was proud to work with you to strengthen project labor agreements and prevailing wage laws and make the investments needed to bring jobs to New Jersey.”

The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters represents over 15,000 carpenters in New Jersey alone. The Union has been a strong advocate for labor issues agreed upon by Sweeney and the Carpenters Union including protecting union apprenticeships programs, promoting the use of project labor agreements, and further enforcement of the crimes of wage theft, worker misclassification, and construction industry tax fraud.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for New Jersey and we need a leader in Trenton that puts good-paying jobs before partisan talking points,” said Sproule, “Whether it is advocating for expanding energy jobs and production through offshore wind, defending apprenticeship programs, or support responsible contractor language for public projects, Steve Sweeney will be a Governor with true union values.”

The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters represents over 43,000 of the most skilled carpenters who live and work in Delaware, The District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. EAS Carpenters are trained in many different trades, including commercial/residential carpentry; heavy highway; piledriving; floor-layering; mill cabinet work; and tradeshow construction
