STEVE SWEENEY SHINES IN FIRST GUBERNATORIAL DEBATE
“Steve Sweeney… is the best prepared by far and could be highly effective as governor on Day One… This [is] a guy who knows the ropes.”
On Sunday night, Steve Sweeney took the stage for the first gubernatorial debate of the Democratic primary, demonstrating that he is the best candidate to serve as New Jersey’s next Governor.
Kerry Lyons, official spokesperson for Steve Sweeney for Governor issued the following statement:
“Everything that the candidates talked about on the debate stage tonight were the issues that Steve Sweeney led on. Whether it was paid family leave, the school funding formula, saving the pension system, raising the minimum wage, and stopping Republican court packing, Steve demonstrated a mastery in understanding the issues and how state government works. Steve Sweeney is going to be the next Governor of New Jersey, and – like always – he’ll do what he does best: Lead.”
And now, the reviews are rolling in…
“Steve Sweeney, the former Senate president, a centrist Democrat, is the best prepared by far and could be highly effective as governor on Day One. He joined with Christie to cut government costs, but he single-handedly blocked Christie’s attempts to pack the state Supreme Court. Meanwhile, former Sen. Loretta Weinberg, the leading liberal in the Legislature during the Sweeney years, says the key to every progressive win was Sweeney’s skill in moving the bills. This [is] a guy who knows the ropes.” – Tom Moran, NJ.com
@MSuleiman: “New Jersey needs an adult in the room who can make the hard decisions to get us back to fiscal stability and a strong economy. Tonight, Steve Sweeney showed he is the steady hand that the Garden State needs to get things done.”
