Sue Altman hails historic attempt to hold corrupt Holtec accountable

A number of liberal groups rallied outside the Statehouse in support of raising income taxes on millionaires. Though Gov. Phil Murphy supports a millionaire's tax and polls show a majority of voters do as well, Senate President Steve Sweeney does not, even though he voted for it during Chris Christie's administration.

Seventh District congressional candidate Sue Altman issued the following statement in response to news that New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin has signed a non-prosecution agreement with Holtec International relating to an investigation of the state’s deeply flawed tax credit program:

I first became involved in attempts to hold corrupt corporations and their political enablers accountable when I saw how a broken political machine perpetuated poverty in Camden, New Jersey’s poorest city, even as it fleeced taxpayers of more than $1 billion.

While Tom Kean Jr. empowers the most dangerous MAGA elements in his own party as he cozies up to Donald Trump, I’ve never been afraid to stand up to corruption in either party, and I’ll always do what’s right for the people of New Jersey.

I applaud General Platkin for his commitment to rooting out corruption in New Jersey, and I celebrate the work of my fellow advocates, who labored for years to hold companies like Holtec accountable.

About Sue Altman

Sue Altman is a proud daughter of New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. She grew up in Clinton, attended Clinton Public School and Voorhees High School, and still calls Hunterdon County her home today, living in Lambertville.

After leading her Voorhees High School basketball team to local championships, Sue played college basketball at Columbia University and professional basketball abroad, earned two graduate degrees from Oxford University in the UK, then went on to become a teacher and successful basketball coach–leading two teams to state championships.

For the last several years, Sue has served as Executive Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance, a non-profit organization focused on fighting political corruption in Trenton, fighting against the waste of taxpayer dollars, and making New Jersey a better place to live for everyone.

Sue has seen firsthand that rising costs and unfair taxes–including the Trump-era SALT deduction cap–are making it harder for the people of the 7th District to raise families, own homes, and retire in their own communities. Driven by a deep commitment to keep fighting for those communities where she was raised, Sue is now taking her years of experience advocating for a fairer system that works for all New Jerseyans and is running for Congress in her home district.
