SULEIMAN CALLS ON POLISTINA TO RELEASE BILL DISMANTLING ATLANTIC CITY GOVERNMENT

(ABSECON) In the wake of his appearance on the Don Williams radio show last Friday, Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman is calling on State Senator Vince Polistina to make public his proposed legislation aimed at overhauling Atlantic City’s government structure, which Senator Polistina has admitted exists.

“For nearly a year, rumors have circulated about a clandestine bill poised to dismantle key aspects of Atlantic City’s governance,” stated Suleiman. “Last week, Senator Polistina stated that his proposed legislation would remove four city council members and replace them with nonresident appointees, all without the input of Atlantic City’s residents. The Senator owes it to the community to release this elusive bill promptly, allowing for a thorough, public discussion about the future of Atlantic City.”

Last winter, Senator Polistina indicated his intention to share the bill draft with Atlantic City’s mayor and council. However, City Council Vice President Kaleem Shabazz has confirmed that the council never received a copy of the bill.

“At a time when the public is fighting against an effort to gut the Open Public Records Act, the withholding of crucial legislative details only fuels skepticism in government” said Suleiman. “Influential political figures are privy to the contents of this bill while Atlantic City residents remain in the dark. Senator Polistina must address this issue promptly by releasing the bill without further delay.”
