SULEIMAN URGES BOARD OF ELECTIONS TO CREATE EARLY VOTING SITE IN PLEASANTVILLE

(Absecon) Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting of the Board of Elections, Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman is calling on the Board to vote in favor of an early voting location in the City of Pleasantville.

“Both political parties have a responsibility to make it easier for historically-disadvantaged communities to vote,” said Suleiman. “Given that a disproportionate number of Pleasantville residents rely on public transportation, and given that it’s one of the only majority-minority communities to not have its own early voting location, I urge the Board of Elections to do the right thing and vote yes.”

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Commissioners will consider the creation of an early voting location at the Senior Citizen Mid-Rise in Pleasantville. While the Republican Commissioners will be voting in favor of creating an early voting location in Egg Harbor Township, the Republican Commissioners and the new Republican County Chairman are currently opposed to creating an early voting site in Pleasantville.

“I too support creating an early voting site in EHT, but to create one in a Caucasian-majority town but oppose one in a majority-minority town reeks of petty politics. I urge the Republicans to do the right thing and create early voting sites in both EHT and Pleasantville.”

Atlantic County can have up to 7 early voting locations; thus, the Board has the ability to approve both locations with no problem.

The Board of Elections meeting is this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Board office at 2 Buffalo Avenue in Egg Harbor City.
