Supreme Court Blocks 2020 Census Question Citizenship Question Blocked From Census Questionnaire

(Atlantic City, NJ) – The United States Supreme Court has blocked a citizenship question from being added to the 2020 census. Adding the citizenship question to the upcoming 2020 census has been debated for over a year with the court’s ruling to block the question from being included in the upcoming 2020 census.

The Supreme Court’s decision could have a deeply profound impact. New population counts from the 2020 census will determine, for the next 10 years, how many seats each state gets in the U.S. House of Representatives and Electoral College votes in the 2024 presidential election. The 2020 census will also determine how approximately $900 billion a year in federal money is allocated across the country for things like schools and roads.

Mayor Gilliam stated, “Atlantic City’s goal is to have as near complete a count as we can for the upcoming 2020 census. We have already begun to put together a team to make sure that all our citizenry feels included and represented. The Supreme Court’s decision concerning the immigration question will certainly help our residents feel that inclusiveness.”
