Sussex County GOP: The Murphy Democrats must follow through on Transparency

The Sussex County Republican Committee is calling on the Sussex County Democratic Committee to fulfill the promise made by the leader of their party, Governor Phil Murphy.  This is a practical request made not only by our organization but overwhelmingly by the people of Sussex County.  We are sure that Governor Murphy shares our concern for transparency, as it was a promise made by him.

The Sussex County Republicans propose the creation of a transparency coalition to examine the claims made by various actors regarding violence and extremism in the county.  In a March 12th press release, the Sussex County Democratic claimed that “Sussex County has been a long standing ‘safe haven’ for “anti-democratic, anti-American ideas” and that political figures “were complicit and actively engaged in spreading these types of anti-democratic messages of hate.”

(1) We believe it would be helpful to examine the full range of ideological groups active in the county – from Action Together and the Black Lives Matter Movement to the often-mentioned Three Percenters and Oath Keepers.  It is important to hear from the groups themselves, who they say they are, as well as what others say they are.  It is also important to quantify and qualify the claims made about these groups as well as the claims made themselves.  We believe that an honest, transparent examination will help the Democrats to acknowledge that Sussex County is indeed a good place to live – and not the violent pit of racism many Democrats would have us believe.

(2) We believe it is important to examine the full effects of environmental legislation on Sussex County.  We have had sufficient time to study the impact of things like the Highlands Act, imposed by Trenton on the communities of Sussex County, and can use this to judge the possible effects of new plans from Trenton – like Governor Murphy’s Green Energy Program.  We believe an honest, transparent examination is in order.

(3) We believe it is necessary to study the outcomes of the Murphy administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, from the economic impact of the Governor’s executive orders, to the lives lost through decisions like Executive Order #103, which sent COVID patients into the county’s nursing homes.  We would also seek to examine the effects of his method of governance on the democratic institutions of our state.  Again, a full, honest, and transparent examination is necessary.

These are the three areas we propose examining through a multi-partisan transparency coalition.  As a start, the Sussex County Republicans suggest that two of our operatives begin discussions with two operatives chosen from your organization.  Please get back to us at your convenience.
