Sweeney Discusses the Future of Wind Energy at ‘Time for Turbines’ Event
Atlantic City – Addressing New Jersey’s offshore wind leaders at an event hosted by the Business Network for Offshore Wind and Jersey Renews, Senate President Steve Sweeney today underscored his commitment to renewable energy.
“We must continue supporting, promoting and pursuing offshore wind energy in New Jersey,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “We have the resources and capacity to be the national frontrunner in the offshore wind industry. As the renewable energy sector of the economy grows, we have an obligation not only to our environment but to New Jersey workers to make it a priority. This is the time to seize this opportunity to be the leader in a field where we can create jobs and spur long-term economic growth.”
“Time for Turbines” is an annual conference where wind energy professionals, policymakers, labor leaders and environmental advocates have the opportunity to hear from and network with one another.
“We are pleased the Senate President was able to join us, and even more pleased to have him as an ally in the Legislature,” said Liz Burdock, executive director of the Business Network for Offshore Wind. “It’s crucial that we as a state invest in renewable energy, and we are going to need the support of the Legislature to make that happen.”
The Business Network for Offshore Wind is a nonprofit dedicated to building a network that will usher the U.S. into the offshore wind market. The group empowers its members with the education, tools and connections necessary to participate in this booming industry.
Jersey Renews is a broad-based coalition of labor, faith, community and environmental organizations. It advocates for environmental justice, clean renewable energy, good jobs, and protections for workers and communities.
