Sweeney, Madden Praise Investment in South Jersey at Groundbreaking for Jefferson Washington Township Hospital Expansion
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Praising the investment in the South Jersey economy, Senate President Steve Sweeney and Senator Fred Madden participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for Jefferson Washington Township Hospital’s $205 million expansion project.
“This significant investment on the part of Jefferson tells other businesses, ‘Come to South Jersey, invest here and grow here,’” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “A great regional hospital is one the first things people look for when they decide to move to a community or invest in a business there. Jefferson is showing what so many of us already know – South Jersey is growing. This new facility will serve our region well for generations to come.”
“We’re breaking ground today on a 21st century medical facility,” said Senator Madden (D-Gloucester/Camden). “When this is completed by the spring of 2021, Jefferson will be a state-of-the-art hospital. Jefferson’s $205 million investment is another sign of how vibrant our region is and how much confidence businesses have in our economic future.”
“This is a great day for Jefferson and we are honored that both Senate President Sweeney and Senator Madden are here,” said Joseph W. Devine, President of Jefferson Health New Jersey Division. “They clearly recognize our expansion of health care services in South Jersey will drive economic activity across our region.”
The two-phase expansion project includes an 800-plus, eight-level enclosed parking garage scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2019 and a new seven-floor Patient Tower to be completed by the spring of 2021.
“Jefferson is not only creating construction jobs over the next three years, but permanent jobs in the hospital once completed and in the businesses that will grow around this expanded facility,” said Senator Sweeney. “All of this will further stimulate our local economy, driving more investment into South Jersey.”
Construction on the Patient Tower is expected to begin in March of 2019. The Tower will include 60 private patient rooms, space for an additional 60 private rooms in the future and a same-day surgery unit and recovery room.
