Sweeney Praises Supreme Court Ruling Protecting Civil Rights of LGBTQ Community

Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement today praising the Supreme Court ruling that a landmark civil rights law protects gay and transgender workers from workplace discrimination:

“This is a major ruling by the country’s highest court that makes it clear that equal rights for the LGBTQ community are civil rights that are protected and respected. The decision affirms that the landmark law outlawing discrimination based on sexual orientation includes the same protections based on gender identity. New Jersey has been a leader on this issue but a decisive ruling by this Court sends a strong message of tolerance and equality. All citizens can take pride in the progress this legal ruling supports and the principles of tolerance and equality it promotes.”
