Sweeney Speaks at Pennsauken-Merchantville Area Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney addressed the Pennsauken-Merchantville Area Chamber of Commerce today about the state of New Jersey, where he spoke of the need for the state to promote economic prosperity, government efficiency and investment in public priorities.

“The truth is New Jersey has the highest state tax burden in the nation. To tackle it, we need to commit to investing in the priorities that promote economic growth, improve government efficiency at the state and local levels, and relieve the pressures weighing on taxpayers,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “Our residents need more affordable services and they certainly should not be told that there is nothing we can do to help with the tax burden and if they don’t like it they should move out of state. We have to focus on the things that matter to people like a trusted public transportation system, clean drinking water, job opportunities and reliable, efficient government. The people of our state deserve to see real progress, and now is the time to deliver.”

The Pennsauken-Merchantville Area Chamber of Commerce (PMAC) holds a luncheon every month. For October’s luncheon, they invited the Senate President to speak about legislation or policies that will affect the businesses of Pennsauken and Merchantville.

“Senator Sweeney understands the importance of a thriving business community and how essential that is to the economic growth of surrounding communities,” said Matthew Gaskill, Chair of the Pennsauken-Merchantville Area Chamber of Commerce. “He continues to be a champion for creating and expanding new economic opportunities throughout the state by ensuring there are a variety of avenues for individuals to achieve economic success. It is an honor to have Senator Sweeney here today to speak about the goals he has that will further elevate our state’s business community.”

The PMAC helps create opportunities for local businesses in Pennsauken, Merchantville and the surrounding area.
