Sweeney Statement on the Passing of Former Senate President Carmen Orechio
TRENTON – Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement on the passing of former New Jersey Senate President Carmen Orechio:
“Carmen Orechio embodied all the best qualities of a man who was devoted to service for others. He served his community in many capacities, he served the State of New Jersey as a legislator and Senate President, and he bravely served his country as a soldier during the Second World War. He was part of the Greatest Generation of Americans who put duty and service first and he lived his life with dignity and humility.
“He was especially devoted to the needs of children and senior citizens and worked tirelessly to improve the quality and availability health care and to making our communities safe. I want to extend my sincere condolences to his family. We share in his loss but we are grateful for all that he accomplished in his life.”
