Sweeney Tours American Dream Mall Construction Site

Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney toured the American Dream Mall construction site in East Rutherford. After more than a decade of delays the mall is expected to open September of 2019 and will provide nearly 10,000 permanent jobs in the area.

“This is one of the most significant construction projects in New Jersey and, as an ironworker, I understand the magnitude of the work to make it happen. The construction of the American Dream Mall has come a long way since it was first proposed in 2003,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “This has been a difficult project but we expect it to deliver on its promise, thanks in large part to the accomplishments of the men and women who built it. I’m looking forward to seeing all the benefits that will come to the surrounding area once it does open, and brings the tens-of-thousands of visitors through its facilities each year.”

The Mall will include a diverse number of features, including over 450 retail stores, more than 100 food vendors and restaurants, an atrium for live events, an ice rink, a theme park, a water park, a concert hall, a movie theater, an indoor snow park, an aquarium and an observation wheel to view the New York skyline.

Triple Five Group, founded by a family in Canada, currently owns the American Dream Mall after acquiring it in 2011. The company also built and owns the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada and the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
