Tammy Murphy Launches Moms for Murphy Coalition
RED BANK, NJ – Today, on Maternal Health Awareness Day, Tammy Murphy announced Moms for Murphy, a statewide coalition dedicated to amplifying the voices of mothers across New Jersey and electing Murphy as the first woman to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate. Moms for Murphy will mobilize and convene around key issues for New Jersey’s families including maternal and infant health, reproductive health care, and abortion rights.
“As a mother of four, I understand firsthand the challenges and joys of motherhood, and it is this intimate perspective that drives my commitment to addressing the issues that matter most to our mothers and families across New Jersey,” said Murphy. “From improving maternal and infant health to advocating for comprehensive climate education reforms that empower every child, my dedication to make New Jersey the best place to raise a family is unwavering. We also know that women should have the fundamental right to choose if and when they decide to have children and the threat to reproductive health care has never been greater. Through Moms for Murphy, we will amplify the voices of mothers in shaping policies that truly reflect the needs of our diverse and vibrant communities. Together, we will build a future where our families thrive, where working moms have the support they need and where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
Murphy has long been a champion for New Jersey’s children and families through her nation-leading work on maternal and infant health. Murphy has worked to root out the institutional racism that Black and Brown women face in pregnancy and childbirth to reduce preventable deaths. Under her leadership, in just six years, New Jersey has moved from 47th in the nation for maternal deaths to 27th. Murphy was also instrumental in making New Jersey the second state in the nation to expand Medicaid coverage for women a full year after childbirth – guaranteeing health care for nearly 9,000 mothers across the state.
