Team DeFusco Releases Flooding Platform Calling for Ending Constant Neighborhood Flooding, Ensuring Long Term Resilience
Plan includes creation of Dedicated Infrastructure Fund for all new development, tax credits for sustainable building and responsibly creating more resilient green space
Hoboken, NJ – Councilman and mayoral candidate Mike DeFusco and Team DeFusco are continuing the release of their #NewEnergyNewIdeas platform with a plan reduce the constant flooding that plagues Hoboken neighborhoods and to address the long term impacts of climate change on the Mile Square City. The plan builds on flood control efforts by the current administration but adds a new willingness to engage the private sector in the process to avoid the delays and cost overruns that have hurt existing flood control projects.

“Our neighborhoods shouldn’t have to become a flood zone every time there’s heavy rain, and we also shouldn’t have to put up with crumbling water infrastructure and constant water main breaks,” said DeFusco. “This is a problem we can solve together by building on what’s working now, adding common sense improvements and engaging the private sector to help fund infrastructure investments while reducing the burden on taxpayers.”

Highlights of DeFusco’s Flooding Plan include:
  • Creating a Dedicated Infrastructure Fund that all new developments would pay into to fund improvements to our water, sewer and road systems, offering tax incentives for sustainable building practices
  • Maximizing the effectiveness of current flood pumps by investing in Hoboken’s sewer infrastructure and adding more pumps where they are needed most
  • Building our more resilient green space more efficiently by using public-private partnerships and sound planning decisions, avoiding the delays and cost overruns of previous projects
  • Continuing the Rebuild by Design program but working to protect waterfront neighborhoods by seeking alternatives to obtrusive floodwalls and engaging the private sector to defray costs
