BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Mayor Mike Venezia is announcing a slate of endorsed candidates for the upcoming June Primary for Ward Council seats in Bloomfield. Supported by Mayor Venezia, Council members at-Large Dr. Wartyna Davis, Carlos Pomares and Ted Gamble as well as the Bloomfield Democratic County Committee, the slate is comprised of Jenny Mundell for 1st Ward Council, Councilman Nicholas Joanow for 2nd Ward Council and Sarah Cruz for 3rd Ward Council.

“Jenny, Nick and Sarah are exactly the kind of people Bloomfield needs in local government and I am proud to announce their candidacies today and give them my full endorsement,” said Mayor Venezia. “They each bring a varied and impressive set of personal and professional experiences to the table and I’m excited to get to work with them to continue moving our community forward.”

Mundell, Joanow and Cruz will be running in the Democratic Primary Election which will be held on June 6th.

About the Candidates

JENNY MUNDELL FOR 1ST WARD COUNCIL

A Bloomfield resident and homeowner since 2010, Jenny Mundell is an experienced fundraising and development professional with expertise in both healthcare and higher education. She currently works as a Senior Director of Donor Relations at RWJBarnabas Health, helping to secure financial support for essential hospital programs. Jenny is an active member of several community and neighborhood organizations and is passionate about a variety of issues including access to public resources, continuing to develop the downtown area and keeping property taxes stable.

COUNCILMAN NICHOLAS JOANOW FOR 2ND WARD COUNCIL

Seeking his fourth term as 2nd Ward Councilman, Nicholas Joanow has been a Bloomfield resident for over 40 years and he is a retired guidance counselor from the East Orange school system. As a council member, Nick has been the driving force behind the ongoing transformation of the Lion Gate property into a major new park and flood mitigation project that will benefit the entire community. Nick not only worked to make the project a reality, he was also part of the team that secured over $5 million in grants for its construction, reducing costs for Bloomfield taxpayers. A constant advocate for the 2nd Ward, Nicholas Joanow is running for re-election to continue serving his constituents selflessly and completely.

SARAH CRUZ FOR 3RD WARD COUNCIL

Sarah Cruz works for the Newark Public Schools planning and overseeing afterschool and summer programs designed to enrich students’ learning experiences and keep them on the right path. She has been a Bloomfield resident for 17 years and her family has been active in local recreation programs. A foster parent, Sarah volunteers her time at local YMCAs and as a board member in a national afterschool advocacy program, furthering her deep commitment to children and helping them succeed. She is running for 3rd Ward Council to work with Team Venezia on improving youth outreach programs and providing additional opportunities for our kids.
