Teaneck Mayor Calls on Legislature to Oppose Redistricting Plan

Teaneck Mayor Calls on Legislature to Oppose Gerrymandering Plan

Teaneck, NJ — Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin is calling on the State Legislature to oppose the legislative gerrymandering plan being considered by the State Senate and Assembly. The plan has drawn near universal criticism from both sides of the aisle, as well as numerous nonpartisan reform groups, citizen engagement organizations and progressive activists. Mayor Hameeduddin is calling on legislators from the 37th District, which includes Teaneck, to oppose the plan when it comes up for a vote on Monday.

“This gerrymandering plan would be a tremendous step back for our state that would literally allow state legislators to draw their own districts,” said Mayor Hameeduddin. “At a time when Democrats around the country are working to stop Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression, our party would be exposed if this plan moves forward as being hypocritical and untrustworthy. I hope the State Legislature will reject this plan and I will work to oppose it.”
