Testa: Murphy “Talks a Big Game” But Actions Are Louder Than Words
Senator Michael Testa slammed Governor Murphy for his seemingly tone-deaf State of the State address that glossed over the reality of New Jersey’s growing affordability crisis.
“Governor Murphy talks a big game about addressing New Jersey’s affordability issues, but his actions speak louder than words. New Jerseyans both young and old are struggling with our highest-in-the-nation property taxes, largest business taxes, and overall high-cost of living,” said Testa (R-1). “These issues are all compounded by years of high-inflation due to poor policies coming from the Murphy administration. This has made it difficult for families and seniors to make ends meet. In the new legislative session, I look forward to working on spending restraints and advocating for responsible fiscal stewardship of taxpayer funds to ensure that New Jersey becomes a desirable place for Americans to live, work, retire, and most importantly, raise a family.”
For the sixth consecutive year, New Jersey had the largest outbound migration rate of residents in the entire country. Retirement was listed as the number one reason why New Jerseyans were exiting the state in 2023.
“It’s no surprise that residents over the age of 62 are leading the exodus from New Jersey. Individuals living on fixed incomes simply cannot keep up with rising taxes each and every year under this administration,” Testa added.
