The Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance Announces New Board Officers
and Board Members

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 8, 2023 — The Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance (KEEA), a nonprofit trade association devoted to advancing energy efficiency as the foundation of a clean, just, and resilient energy economy, announced new Officers and new Members of its Board of Directors this month. Board members are elected by the business members of KEEA and its affiliate, the Energy Efficiency Alliance of New Jersey (EEA-NJ), two 501(c)6 trade associations representing the energy efficiency industry in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, respectively. Announcing New Board Officers

Carolyn Sloan, Manager of Regulatory Affairs & Market Development at Oracle Water and Power, has served on KEEA’s Board since elected in December 2020 and stepped into the role of KEEA Board President at the start of 2023. “As we move into what will surely be an exciting and action-filled year for energy efficiency in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, I am pleased to welcome new and returning members of the Board of Directors,” Ms. Sloan said. “Each Board member’s strong commitment to KEEA, EEA-NJ, and our nonprofit educational arm, the Energy Efficiency Alliance—along with their deep experience in the industry—is invaluable to the organization. I look forward to working together with the Board and Staff as we seek to live out our Mission of championing efficiency as the foundation of a clean, just, and resilient energy economy in 2023.”

Joe Nunley, Vice President of Program Services at Performance Systems Development, stepped into the role of Board Vice President. Ben Adams, Vice President for Strategic Development at Magrann Associates, will continue his 2022 role as Board Secretary in 2023. Julie De Seve Program Director at CLEAResult, will serve as Treasurer.

Four Energy Efficiency Business Leaders Join EEA’s 2023 Board

KEEA and EEA-NJ member businesses and KEEA’s 2022 Board Members reviewed a slate of nominations in late 2022 and elected four new Board members to help steer the KEEA/EEA family of organizations in 2023. These new Board members, all leaders in their energy efficiency companies and in the region’s energy efficiency industry, will leverage their years of experience and expertise to steer the organization’s work saving energy, growing the energy efficiency workforce, promoting equity, and decarbonizing buildings in 2023.

The four new board members are Tejas Desai (Tri-State Light & Energy), Fred Maher (CMC Energy Services), Elizabeth McQuaide (Franklin Energy), and Nancy Mifflin (Mifflin Consulting).

Tejas Desai, PE LEED AP, CEM, CEA, CDSM, EBCP
General Manager at Tri-State Light & Energy Inc.

As General Manager at Tri-State Light & Energy Inc. (TSLE), Tejas Desai currently leads the company’s growth in engineering, design-build, engineered solutions, energy management, and other utility programs. Since Tri-State Light & Energy joined EEA-NJ, Mr. Desai has become actively involved in the organization’s work on public sector procurement in New Jersey. Prior to joining TSLE, Mr. Desai led Willdan’s Northeast and East Operations for Engineering Work and EE Programs, where he helped Willdan launch its New Jersey operations. Earlier in his career, he worked at WSP Consulting as a Lead Engineer and Assistant Project Manager. Mr. Desai serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Indo-American Engineers and Architects (SIAEA) and the New Jersey Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). He holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Mr. Desai shared this statement:

“I have 20+ years of EE, HVAC, and distributed generation project experience working with Healthcare, K-12 projects, municipal customers, and other major institutional clients. I have been GM of TSLE for the past year and a half. We are EE consulting and installation contractors who execute a variety of projects, including design-building, energy efficiency consulting, CM/PM services, and other project implementation. I have been on the Board of AEE’s NJ chapter and SIAEA, and I see that this board had a lot of bright individuals headed by LIoyd Kass in 2022. I’d like to thank Lloyd, Jeaneen Zappa, and Jon Hacker for introducing me to EEA.”

Fred Maher, M.A., CP, APMP
Senior Manager of Business Development at CMC Energy Services

As Senior Manager of Business Development, Fred Maher steers CMC Energy Services’ business growth and strategic marketing activities, creating multichannel campaigns optimizing lead generation and customer acquisition while working closely with the CMC Board and marketing partners. Prior to joining CMC, Mr. Maher served as Internal Communications Manager at Exelon Generation and held leadership roles in communications departments at PECO—where he created and managed all facets of a $5 million project to give homeowners energy reports—and the Klein College of Media and Communication. He has a B.A. in Journalism from Temple University and an M.A. in Mass Media and Communications from Temple University.

Elizabeth McQuaide
Senior Programs Manager, Franklin Energy

With over a decade in the energy services industry, Elizabeth McQuaide currently provides leadership and management to several energy efficiency programs as Senior Programs Manager at Franklin Energy. She manages Duquesne Light’s non-residential portfolio and FirstEnergy’s PA Utilities Residential Products Act 129 programs, where she leads a team of energy professionals delivering residential and non-residential energy efficiency and grid optimization programs for utility clients. Prior to joining Franklin Energy, Ms. McQuaide served as Program Manager at CLEAResult, Common Systems and Process Leader at Honeywell, and Marketing Manager at the Dollar Energy Fund. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

“As someone who’s implemented and managed PA Act 129 programs for the past decade, I’m excited to voice the real-world obstacles encountered on a daily basis and collaborate with my fellow KEEA Board Members to promote policy and programs which will bring energy efficiency and sustainability to the forefront of conversations.”

Nancy Mifflin
Founder & Principal, Mifflin Consulting LLC

Nancy Mifflin is an independent consultant to energy and utility companies and their suppliers. She is Founder and Principal of Mifflin Consulting LLC, which became a certified minority-owned, women-owned business through the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council in early 2022. Ms. Mifflin has years of global consulting experience working with energy companies in the US, Canada, and the UK. Her work projects often involve system modernization due to mergers, smart meter/grid programs, and regulatory compliance programs. Ms. Mifflin has a nationwide professional network of energy executives and senior managers and extensive involvement with the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE), where she served as President of AABE’s Philadelphia chapter, AABE’s Mid-Atlantic Regional director, and first Vice President of the AABE National Board of Directors. She is highly active in Philadelphia’s energy efficiency sphere, where she chairs the Board of the Energy Coordinating Agency, serves on the Energy Action Team of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and frequently provides consulting services to the Philadelphia Energy Authority and PECO. Her past roles include management positions with PECO and Exelon and Adjunct Instructor of Statistics at Eastern University. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s Degree in Applied Research from the Hahnemann Graduate School (now part of Drexel University).

KEEA Thanks Departing Board Members

In addition to welcoming its 2023 Board Members and officers, KEEA also thanks departing Members and Officers who served the EEA family of organizations throughout 2022. Lloyd Kass, Vice President of Strategy & Market Development at Franklin Energy, and Mike Newman, Director of Midwest Program Delivery at CMC Energy Services, exited the Board at the close of 2022, having served since 2019, most recently as President and Treasurer, respectively.
