Three-Bill Package Adding “Central Jersey” as an Official NJ Tourism Region, Strengthening Tourism Promotion Efforts to be Considered Thursday

Assembly Tourism and Assembly Agriculture Committees to Review Legislation during Joint Hearing

(TRENTON) – Does Central Jersey exist? Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-Somerset, Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon) would affirm “Central Jersey” does exist and officially recognize it as a State tourism region.

Among the three-bill package under review Thursday by the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee and Assembly Agriculture and Food Security Committee, a bill would define the borders of the Central Jersey region and provide for equitable distribution of tourism funding.

The committees—led by Chairmen Ralph Caputo (D-Essex) and Roy Freiman—will meet on Thursday, February 16 at 1:00 PM in Room 16 of the State House Annex in Trenton. Audio from the hearing will be live streamed on the New Jersey Legislature’s website (https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/live-proceedings).

The following tourism bills will be considered:

A5097

Freiman/Haider

Establishes tourism attraction trail sign program and historic site and historic district sign program in DOT.
A5098

Freiman/Spearman/

Park

Establishes new tourism regions and subregions in New Jersey.
