The NY Times recently reported “doctors see an alarming disparity and disproportionate COVID-19 impact on Latino Immigrants.” With fifty New Jersey municipalities containing 27% and up to 82% Latino population the health and economic ripple effect due to the pandemia on families across our continent is catastrophic. As of April 9th, nationwide Latinos represent 34% of virus-related deaths with another whopping percentage of unemployed workers. Prior to COVID19 there were more than 116,000 Latino owned businesses generating a 12 billion dollar economy for our state. Latino entrepreneurship grew at 2.5 times faster than any other US firm. The times have forced a great number of Latino businesses to close; today, most struggle to survive while re-engineering their activities to successfully weather the storm.

During May 2020 The Latino Spirit successfully distributed over 3 tons of food to Trenton, Lakewood and Camden. On May 16th and with the collaboration of City of Camden Mayor Frank Moran, Councilman Angel Fuentes, Councilwoman Felisha Reyes-Morton and its Police Department, Department of Public Works and Department of Recreation over 300 families were served.

The Latino Spirit Media is a Latino owned and operated company providing latino-centric empowering media. During C19 pandemia it has stepped up to the plate with its own resources simultaneously broadcasting and translating Governor Phil Murphy’s Covid-19 daily briefings in Spanish; Over 1.9 Million Hispanics in New Jersey have access to the governor’s decisions in their own language. The Latino Spirit Media also produces daily audio visual content about Latino life to positively engage and unite the region’s own hispanic diverse cultures.
