TRANSFORMATIONAL ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM TO ENTER THIRD YEAR IN BRIDGEWATER

More than 150 road repair & reconstruction projects have already been funded, with dozens more to come in years 3 through 5

Bridgewater, NJ – Earlier tonight at the Bridgewater Township Council meeting, Township Engineer Bill Burr presented the recap of the 2022 Road Improvement Plan and outlined the 2023 Road Improvement Plan to the Council and the public on behalf of the Mayor and Township Administration.

Burr presented an overview of neighborhoods rather than a specific list of roads, and stressed that no final list exists at this point in time. He was careful to stipulate that because the cost-estimation process continues, the plan is still in draft form and subject to change. However, he did estimate that the Township will aim to reconstruct or improve between 50 and 70 roads in 2023. This amount would be in line with years 1 and 2 of the five-year plan, during which 67 and 57 roads were reconstructed or repaired, respectively.

Bridgewater Township Mayor Matthew Moench commented: “There are over 600 municipal roads in this Township, and we have already funded projects addressing over 22% of them in years one and two. Our data-driven, concerted, multi-year effort is showing inarguable results. We are transforming Bridgewater’s infrastructure before our eyes.”

“I think all of us here can and should be immensely proud of what we have already achieved, while also acknowledging there is an enormous amount still to do. That is why the unwavering support of the Council is so crucial in order for us to get where we want to be by the end of year five,” Moench concluded.

“I have been a proud supporter of this program since the Mayor first conceived of it three years ago,” said Council President Michael Kirsh. “Bridgewater taxpayers expect us to make prudent, effective and responsible investments to improve their infrastructure and quality of life. Year after year, this program is the fulfillment of those expectations. The Council has spoken extensively with Bill Burr, done our due diligence, and we believe this is a program that must continue to move forward this year and in years to come.”

Once the list of road projects is finalized, residents can expect the full listing on www.OurBWRoads.com.
