“True Democrat Candidates” Harvey-Cottman, Carrington, and Ahmed call for  George and Yasna Babich Tibbitt to resign effective immediately.

(Atlantic City, NJ) Today, candidates for Council At Large: Shameeka Harvey-Cottman, Aaron Carrington, and Mohammed Suhel Ahmed are sending a formal ethics complaint to Governor Phil Murphy, Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver who also serves as the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs and  is asking for New Jersey Attorney General Grewal to pursue formal official misconduct and ethics charges against Councilman George Tibbitt related to recent hiring of his wife Yasna Babich Tibbitt and a pattern of abuse with public resources.

“This doesn’t come as a surprise. It further proves why change is needed” says Shameeka Harvey-Cottman.  George Tibbitt’s abuse of the city’s vehicle policy is one the more embarrassing parts of Atlantic City government’s recent history. He is the reason that council members no longer get to take home vehicles. He still needs to be held accountable for that incident. It’s no statute of limitations on official misconduct.” She added

This complaint is born from the recent news that Councilman George Tibbitt’s wife Yasna Babich Tibbitt is now working in the City’s office of Multicultural affairs and Special Events as a supervisor under her maiden name and other misuses of public resources outlined in the complaint. Additionally, Councilman Tibbitt did not file the necessary ethics paperwork nor did he abstain from the votes that created or funded her position. Instead, he served as a sponsor of the ordinances and worked hard to push these measures through council in a very occult manner and voting on agenda items in “group votes” to conceal the true details.

Mohammed Suhel Ahmed contributes,  “The corruption, cronyism and nepotism is a virus within City Hall. If we (Atlantic City residents) are to regain proper financial footing and independence this type of patronage hiring practices have to cease effective immediately. Our community deserves a higher level of moral and transparent leadership from our elected officials.”   There are many residents of our diverse communities that speak several  languages, This seems very unfair and unprofessional. We must do better.

“Its my understanding that there are federal, state and local ethics policies in place that prohibit such practices. With almost 20 years on council He should know better.. The councilman should save the city more embarrassing moments, save the taxpayers money, hopefully save his dignity and simply resign immediately.”  Aaron Carrington stated.

The “True Democrat” team of Harvey-Cottman, Ahmed and Carrington share the slogan with running mate Tom Foley and are seeking three of three open council at large seats in this year’s June 8th primary election to provide a higher quality of representation for the entire Atlantic City community not a select few.
