Tucker Receives Civilian Commendation Medal from Governor Murphy

Award Honors Tucker’s Support of NJ Soldiers and Veterans Throughout the Years

(TRENTON) – In recognition of her continuous support of New Jersey veterans, the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NJDMAVA) awarded Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker with the Civilian Commendation Medal. Governor Phil Murphy presented Tucker with the award during the National Guard Military Review on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019.

Recipients of this medal are civilians who distinguish themselves by exhibiting outstanding service and dedication to helping veterans. It is the highest honor the state’s National Guard can bestow upon a civilian.

As Chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee in the General Assembly, Tucker takes the lead on addressing issues affecting soldiers and veterans throughout the state. Her tireless efforts on that front are why she was selected to receive the award.

“I am honored to accept this medal from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and want to thank Governor Murphy for presenting me with the award,” said Tucker (D-Essex). “I strongly believe that veterans deserve our support when it comes to taxes, education, healthcare-related issues, disability benefits and more, which is why I have made it my goal to advocate on their behalf over the years.”

Members of the National Guard were in attendance when Tucker received her medal. The Military Review is an annual ceremony where the sitting governor inspects and observes the capabilities of New Jersey troops. This year’s event took place on the Parade Field at the National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt, and included an artillery gun salute to Governor Murphy as well as a helicopter and fighter jet flyover.
