Tucker Statement on Testimonies of Ongoing Work to Aid State’s Homeless Veterans
Applauds Organizations on Success Stories, Strategies

(TRENTON) –Continuing to seek ways to aid the state’s homeless veterans, Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex), chair of the Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee, released the following statement Thursday after hearing testimonies from organizations that have developed strategies and implemented policies to reduce homelessness among veterans in New Jersey.

“I commend these organizations for their work to help homeless veterans in New Jersey. The men and women who have served the United States have made so many sacrifices to protect our freedom and defend our country. Housing is a basic necessity that veterans deserve.

            “While homelessness among veterans in New Jersey has decreased by approximately 28 percent since 2011, there is still more work to do. I applaud the work of the Bergen County Executive’s Office, Division of Veterans Services for Bergen County, Bergen County Housing, Health and Human Services Center, Mercer County Department of Human Services, and others who are leading the effort to make certain New Jersey veterans have a place to call home. Anything less is unacceptable and dishonors their commitment to serving our country.”
