Turner, Cruz-Perez Historic Preservation Funding Gains Governor’s Approval
Trenton – Legislation sponsored by Senator Shirley Turner and Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez, to appropriate constitutionally dedicated CBT revenue to the NJ Historic Trust, was signed into law last Tuesday.
“Historic preservation efforts revitalize our communities and strengthen tourism around the state,” said Senator Turner (D-Hunterdon/Mercer). “These grants will benefit urban, suburban and rural towns where historic properties can be costly to maintain, but provide a popular attraction and stable employment.”
The law appropriates $13,902,723 for various historic preservation projects and associated administrative costs. With over 60 grants, the appropriation will impact nearly every county in the state.
“New Jersey is rich with history and there are many places throughout our state that echo back to moments in time that helped shape not only our state but our entire nation.” Senator Cruz-Perez (D-Camden/Gloucester). “It is our responsibility to preserve our historic places that are a part of our state’s identity and our culture for future generations to enjoy.”
