TWO HOBOKEN FARMERS MARKETS TO OPEN WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE 2020 SEASON

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla, the City of Hoboken and Bijou Properties are pleased to announce that a new Uptown Farmers Market will operate on Saturdays under the 14th Street Viaduct starting May 30, 2020. The uptown market is a temporary relocation of the “Garden Street Farmers Market” normally hosted by Bijou Properties, which was unable to use its location in 2020 given limited social distancing options at the previous location. This is the second farmers market that will be open in Hoboken, with the Hoboken Farmers Market taking place on Tuesdays at Church Square Park and in front of Demarest School, starting June 2, 2020. The local vendors at Farmers Markets in Hoboken provide nutritious Jersey Fresh fruits, vegetables and other locally made products.

Both farmers markets will take additional precautions to safely comply with social distancing regulations:
• All staff, vendors and customers will be required to wear gloves and masks.
• Customers will have to shop in one direction (one entry and exit point).
• All staff, vendors and customers will have to social distance at least 6 feet at all times.

“I’m very pleased that we are able to work with Bijou Properties to keep an uptown farmers market in Hoboken with new, social distancing requirements,” said Mayor Bhalla. “Access to fresh fruits and vegetables is an important part of staying healthy during COVID-19, and I’m glad we were able to come up with another option this year given the circumstances. Thank you to the Bijou Properties team, Director Jennifer Gonzalez, and Dave Calamoneri for making this second location possible.”

“We are thrilled to be able to work with the City to bring back the Uptown Farmers Market to a new location that is both safe and accessible to the community,” said Larry Bijou, Managing Partner of Bijou Properties.” What made our original location at the pedestrianized Garden Street Mews so special was the intimacy of the space, but that is exactly what creates a challenge for us right now when we need to keep our distance from each other. Now, more than ever, making sure Hoboken has more options like farmers markets for shopping outdoors is critical to our community’s health and wellbeing.”
