Washington, D.C. – At a recent meeting of the leadership of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), a new Legislative Action Committee was created, and USCM President Miami Mayor Francis Suarez named Brian Wahler, Mayor of Piscataway (NJ), as its Chair. The Conference of Mayors has a long track record of successful advocacy in Washington on behalf of American cities. Chairman Wahler and the committee will serve to further strengthen those efforts and coordinate legislative priorities across the Conference. With this announcement, Chairman Wahler released the following statement:
“One of the great strengths of the U.S. Conference of Mayors is our ability to marshal the voices of so many mayors in pursuit of unified goals, and this committee will only elevate that work. I’m grateful to Mayor Suarez for entrusting me with this responsibility to be a voice for America’s mayors with federal policymakers. The Conference has a proud history of delivering for American cities through vigorous advocacy, and the legislative successes of the last several years have underscored the value of engaging with members of Congress. There is still so much work that must be done to strengthen cities and improve the lives of the people we represent, and I’m eager to get to work with my fellow committee and task force chairs, as well as our leadership, to continue delivering progress.”
USCM CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran also made the following statement on Mayor Wahler’s appointment as Chair:
“Mayor Wahler has the zeal for good policy and the strong work ethic that are required for successful advocacy. The U.S. Conference of Mayors has never been more effective in Washington than it is now, and this new committee will elevate our work even higher. I appreciate Mayor Wahler’s eagerness to serve. He has been a valuable member of our organization for years, and I’m delighted that he now has this leadership role to put his passion for solution to use for American cities like his.”
