U.S. Senator Cory Booker Endorses LaMonica McIver for Congress

June 24, 2024—(NEW JERSEY) U.S. Senator Cory Booker joins the long list of prominent legislators who are endorsing the U.S. House of Representative Candidate LaMonica McIver to replace the late Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. in New Jersey’s 10th congressional district.

“LaMonica McIver is an inspiring and groundbreaking leader who will be a champion for the people of the 10th Congressional District. I have been proud to call LaMonica a friend, neighbor, and my Councilwoman in the Central Ward of Newark, and I’ll be even prouder to call her a Congresswoman,” said Senator Booker.

“I’ve seen up close how she’s broken barriers as the youngest woman ever elected to Newark’s City Council and rose to take on the role of Council President, all the while leading with compassion and conviction to improve the lives of her constituents. I know LaMonica will make us all proud as she builds on the important work of my dear friend, the late Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr., and I can’t wait to see what she will accomplish when she gets to Washington. I am excited to stand with LaMonica as she once again makes history—this time as the first Black woman to represent this District in Congress.”

Council President McIver proudly accepted the endorsement.

“I am thankful to Senator Booker for his support,” she said. “I recognize that as Newark’s youngest-ever council president, I stand on the shoulders of giants such as him, and I am deeply committed to fighting for policies in Washington that create a brighter future for the district, one where every voice is heard, every person is valued, and every community thrives.”
