UAW Endorses Carolyn Rush (Congressional candidate for NJ-02)

Yesterday, Carolyn Rush (Congressional candidate for NJ-02) announced the endorsement of her candidacy by the United Automobile Workers (UAW). “I am extremely humbled and grateful to the UAW for this vote of confidence,” said Rush.
The UAW represents members in industries including autos and auto parts, health care, casino gambling, and higher education. Their top goal is taking care of WORKERS.

Carolyn strongly supports workers’ rights and stands with the casino dealers fighting for legislation to ban indoor smoking in the gambling halls of Atlantic City. In 2006, New Jersey banned indoor smoking in all public places — except casinos — where the Casino Owners Association of NJ lobbied successfully for an exemption citing concerns over potential losses of revenue. Atlantic City casino workers have suffered the consequences of that exemption ever since and remain significantly more exposed to toxic second-hand smoke compared to all other segments of the U.S. workforce. The science is clear, tobacco smoke presents dire health risks for those who choose to smoke – and, unfortunately, also for those subjected to second-hand smoke. Casino dealers are getting sick and dying. Along with the UAW, Rush supports legislation to protect the health and well-being of Atlantic City’s casino workers and to ensure they enjoy the same rights as all other employees in the state of NJ.

Union membership is in Rush’s blood. Her father was a lifelong member of the Plasters & Cement Masons Union. She married a Union Sprinkler Fitter. Her son is a member of the Steamfitters Union. Her daughter is a member of the National Treasury Employee Union (NTEU), and her sister is a member of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA). As an engineer who joined Lockheed Martin in 2005, she had the opportunity to join the Association of Scientists and Professional Engineering Personnel (ASPEP). She chose to join ASPEP because she strongly supports unions.
“I support unions because unions support workers! I refuse to accept casino dealers being forced to work in an unsafe environment. Hard-working citizens deserve protection. Along with the UAW, I support WORKERS, especially the little guys who just need to be treated fairly. The UAW is an amazing force for GOOD and I am proud to have their support,” said Rush.
