UFCW Local 360 Endorses Brigid Callahan Harrison for Congress

BERLIN, NJ—Today, The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 360 representing over 12,000 union workers in NJ and parts of PA and NY announce their support for their union sister, Democrat Brigid Callahan Harrison for Congress in New Jersey’s second congressional district.

Harrison is a 25-year member of the American Federation of Teachers Local 1904. A well-respected political analyst, she is the author of several books about American government. Harrison teaches Political Science at Montclair State University.

UFCW’s Local 360 President, Sam Ferraino states, “Harrison’s values are very much in line with our members’. She is what we need – a regular citizen, who will advocate for collective bargaining and affordable heath care. She is not a politician who puts politics before the best interest of their constituents. She has been an active and well-respected leader in her community for 30 years and has always stood up for what is right, even when it was tough.”

The Local 360’s mission is dedicated to preserving, protecting and improving the wage benefits and working conditions of their members who work in supermarkets, food services and manufacturing, healthcare services, pharmacies, maintenance workers and the cannabis industry. Local 360 pledges to address the concerns of workers and communities dealing with the devasting effects of raising healthcare costs and corporate dominance of our location communities and fight for all the issues that matter most to working families. They also pledge to take an active role in the political process that creates laws that impact the jobs and quality of life of their members, their families and the communities where they live and work.

The UFCW Local 360 labor union was charted on September 12, 2019 through a merger of UFCW 1360 and 1245 bringing together two longstanding factions and over 12,000 members in New Jersey along with parts of PA and NY.

Ferraino adds, “Brigid has earned the support many unions throughout South Jersey, including ours and she has earned the party line from six of the eight county parties that cover the New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District. Her ability to unify support among Democrats and bring together our brothers and sisters in organized labor ensure her path to victory, and we are proud to be a part of that.”

According to Ferraino the next step for the UFCW Local 360 is to ensure that Brigid wins the party line in Atlantic County at the upcoming Democratic Convention’s primary.

The UFCW is one of the largest private sector unions in the United States, representing 1.3 million hard-working men and women in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
