UNITE HERE Local 54 Announces Endorsements for Local 2020 Races

ATLANTIC CITY: Today the Political Action Committee of Unite Here Local 54 announced their endorsement of candidates for Atlantic County and Municipal Elections.

Endorsements

Atlantic County Commissioner At-Large

Caren Fitzpatrick (D) – Caren has demonstrated a strong commitment to diversity and women’s rights during her first term as County Commissioner. She has stood by our fellow members and the working people of Atlantic County.

John Risley (R) – “John Risley has been a long-time friend of the members of Local 54. Over the past 20 years he has always marched with us on picket lines and stood by us as we fought to ensure fair pay and benefits. John knows what working people like me need in Atlantic County” said Bernie Lelyan, Linwood resident and banquet bartender.

Atlantic County Sheriff

Eric Scheffler (D) – Eric has done an incredible job during his first term as Sheriff. He has demonstrated a commitment to making sure we have safe communities in Atlantic County. He has also demonstrated a strong commitment to justice and utilizing different approaches to address many of our community’s problems.

Atlantic County Commissioner District 3

Andrew Parker (R) -Andrew is young, bright and energetic. He is a schoolteacher in Atlantic City and a proud member of the NJEA. His commitment to diversity is incredibly important to building a more inclusive Atlantic County. We are excited for the leadership he will bring to Atlantic County.

Atlantic County Surrogate

Jim Curcio (R) – Jim is a longtime friend of Local 54 and our PAC has endorsed him before on 2 separate occasions. He has marched with our members and serves in an important job that impacts many of our members especially in times of losing a loved one.

Pleasantville School Board

Loreal Chrisp – Loreal is a member of Local 54. She is an amazing leader not just in her workplace but also in her community. She has served on the Contract Committee in the Pleasantville School Cafeterias and on The Black Leadership Committee of Unite Here Local 54. She is a tireless advocate that the students and parents of Pleasantville desperately need and deserve.

The Local 54 Political Action committee is comprised of union members from a diverse cross section of the union’s membership. Unite Here Local 54 has over 10,000 members working in the hotel, gaming, and food service industries across New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.
