United New Union Democrats Challenge Petitions of Cryan County Committee

For immediate release

The United New Union Democrats have submitted formal objections to over 40 of the nominating petitions for Union County Committee candidates of the Regular Democrat Organization of the Township of Union, chaired by Joseph Cryan

Jason F. Krychiw, Township of Union Committee candidate in the Democratic Primary, submitted the objection earlier today challenging a wide range of issues with the petitions.  These included missing candidate names, non-Democrats running for positions, and unaffiliated and Republican voters signing many of the petitions, violating Title 19 of the NJRS.

“For a group that keeps claiming we aren’t ‘real Democrats,’ they have a lot of non-Democrats running for their County Committee spots and signing their petitions,” Krychiw said in a statement.  “It is abundantly clear we are the ones who have the support of the residents who care about seeing positive change in town.”

Jackie Topoleski, a County Committee candidate for the United New Union Democrats, remarked, “it was disheartening to see the lack of thought or care that was given to the petitions that were handed in.  From signatures from residents not within the candidates’ district, to the repeated occurrence of candidates writing their names on the incorrect lines, it is evident they assumed that the least amount of effort would once again win them these positions.  Union residents deserve more than the least amount of effort from their elected leaders.”

The United New Union Democrats hope these invalid petitions will be reviewed in due time so the residents of Union can have a choice of candidates who are ready to put in the work the residents deserve.  The current Municipal Clerk of Union is the sister of County Committee candidate and local Chairman, Joseph Cryan The New Democrats also hope the petitions are reviewed in a neutral and unbiased way.

“It’s time for new leaders who represent accountability, transparency, and the Union of today to step forward,” Krychiw continued.  “The United New Democrats are those leaders and we hope to have your support at the polls on June 4th.”
