UPDATE: Senate Republicans Will Seek Vote on $1,000 “Give It Back” Rebates at Tomorrow’s Session

UPDATE: Senator O’Scanlon’s effort to move legislation (S-2243) sponsored by Senate Republicans that would provide immediate $1,000 “Give It Back” rebates to four million New Jersey families was blocked by Democrats in a party-line vote at today’s Senate session. This follows Senate Democrats blocking a related $500 “Give It Back” rebate bill sponsored by Republicans at the last session on May 26.

The two “Give It Back” bills that were blocked by Democrats at the last two Senate sessions would provide most New Jersey families with a combined $1,500 of immediate rebates. Unlike the ANCHOR plan proposed by Gov. Murphy and Democrats, the “Give It Back” rebates would not discriminate against renters by providing a lower amount. Every qualifying family would get the full amount. Further, the “Give It Back” rebates would provide a total of $4.5 billion of relief to New Jerseyans, more than double the $2 billion that Democrats say ANCHOR would provide, and it would help twice as many people (4 million vs. 2 million).
