Vainieri Huttle Condemns Alabama Senate Vote To Enact Strictest-in-the-Nation Abortion Ban
(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) takes a stand on the recent action against women’s health taken by the Alabama State Senate:
“Yesterday, 25 men in the Alabama State Senate passed a near blanket ban on abortion. This law makes abortion a crime at any stage of pregnancy, with the only exception being a serious threat to the health of the woman.
“Alabama’s law joins several other states in a troubling trend of state legislatures attempting to police women’s bodies with the hope of initiating a Supreme Court fight to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“One in four women will have an abortion before the age of 45 in America. The decision to terminate a pregnancy should be left to a woman, her doctor, her family and her faith.
“It is condescending that legislatures comprised of mostly white, middle-aged men think that they know what is best for women.
“I am proud that New Jersey is a state that stands with women and allows them to make these personal decisions on their own terms. I implore legislatures around the nation to trust women and stop playing politics with women’s health.”
