Veteran Police Chief Caravela Announces Campaign for Monmouth County Sheriff
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 27, 2022
MONMOUTH COUNTY – Manuel Caravela, today announced his bid for Monmouth County Sheriff. Coming off a 28-year career in law enforcement, Chief Caravela hopes to bring knowledge of law enforcement best practices, administrative expertise, and leadership to the role.
“The call to serve the public has always been paramount in my life. Right now in Monmouth County, the State of New Jersey, and across the country, residents are calling for strong and honest leadership. Law enforcement demands strong leadership that will examine the needs of each community and adapt to changing times” Caravela states. “Transparency and trustworthiness with the community are absolutely key to ensuring effective relationships between law enforcement and the residents they serve and protect. Monmouth County has a Sheriff who serves as a party boss and that is unacceptable – I don’t care whether you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent – politics should not be in our law enforcement agencies.”
Manny’s extensive law enforcement career began in 1989 serving the Police Department of Bridgewater, NJ where he would spend almost 30 years, becoming Chief of Police in 2013. During his time in that position, he has managed and prepared the eight million dollar budget of the police Department, reaccredited the agency as determined by the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police, and implemented safety protocols and programs such as “Dealing with an Active Shooter Incident”, “Heed the Speed”, “Provisional Drivers Education”, and many more.
“I am running for Sheriff because I truly believe Law Enforcement must be fully engaged with every community and neighborhood in Monmouth County. I want to be a Sheriff that is responsive to every resident, every business both large and small, to work with all Chiefs and Police Departments to reduce crime and improve crime prevention. As your sheriff I will work to gain the trust of every citizen in Monmouth County through hard work, honesty and integrity.”
Chief Caravela, a life-long Republican, will be joining the Democratic Party due to his concern over current Sheriff Shaun Golden’s choice to also be a party boss. Caravela resides in Manasquan with his wife of 38 years, Lisa. Together they have two children, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter.
